As the famous saying goes ‘you are what you eat’, the importance of food in maintaining good health cannot be declined. There was a time when there were limited number of options as far as food items were concerned because one had access to only locally grown vegetables and fruits but thanks to the concept of globalization, one now has access to millions of food varieties that are grown in different parts of the world. Apart from the freshly grown food items, there is a flood of processed and packaged food items as well that tend to save a lot of time and energy of the busy man today.

Why is food important for keeping you in good health?

Food is the actual source of energy for our body i.e. all the functions and organs in our body are able to perform well due to the energy and nutrition supplied to them via food. Each one of us is aware of the fact that our body is made up of cells and these cells keep on dying in order to pave way for the birth of new cells. This process of regeneration is made possible through the proteins and carbohydrate content derived by our body through the foods we eat. Even the calcium for keeping bones in good health is derived through the food we eat. Food helps in maintaining our heart functions, joints, blood vessels, nervous system and body weight.

Anti-oxidant rich food is also helpful in keeping your mind relaxed and even combats symptoms of anxiety and stress.
  • Bones are considered to be essential element of a person’s good health and well-being and thus it is important to maintain them at all costs. One needs to take calcium rich diet in order to keep both bones and teeth in good health and make sure that calcium diet is accompanied by vitamin D for better results. Include foods like cheese, milk, spinach in your diet along with fish and eggs for fulfilling Vitamin D needs.

    I am having a hard time changing my diet, but need to due to health issues. It’s hard for me for a couple of reasons, one is because I really love the kinds of food that aren’t good for you (they just taste sooo good!), another is that I have never had to watch what I eat weight-wise until the past few years, but it’s hard to change eating habits. Thank you for the helpful information. Time to get started on my way to being a healthier eater!
